Associate Professor Dr Zalinah Ahmad
Bsc (Hons) (Biochem Mol Biol) (UKM), PhD (Med Biochem) (UKM),
She is an Associate Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
Her research is on the biochemistry and molecular biology aspects of many diseases including cancer, diabetic food ulcer and congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) with a focus on the development, progression and prevention of metabolic syndrome related diseases. She does gene expressions and polymorphisms to identify biomarkers that contribute to altered risk of getting diabetes and cardiovascular diseases as well as patients’ responses towards drugs. She is passionately working on cell-based/gene therapy to find the best treatment for Type I and II diabetes. She has been working on developing a smart oral insulin. She also collaborates with others on the study of antioxidant, metabolomic and toxicology.
She is actively involved in American Diabetes Association, Malaysian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (MSBMB) and Malaysian Association of Clinical Biochemist (MACB).
