PROFESSIONAL
My proficiency in utilising biomarkers to bridge the gap between air pollutants and their impact on respiratory health has been a cornerstone of my research. Through my studies, I have demonstrated the immense potential of biomarkers as invaluable tools for dissecting complex relationships, shedding light on the complex mechanisms that underscore the health effects of air pollutants. I have meticulously investigated the implications of exposure to air pollutants on the epigenetic landscape, using histone modification and DNA methylation as insightful biomarkers. I have also explored epigenetic mechanisms in obesity.
Furthermore, my studies have not only been confined to the laboratory; I have ventured into the field, conducting comprehensive exposure and health impact assessments among children and adults, providing me with a holistic understanding of the real-world implications of air pollution. Notably, my inquisitiveness led me to uncover the connections between COVID-19, air quality, and meteorological factors in Malaysia.
I have been involved in several funded research projects as a principal investigator, research student, research assistant and research intern since 2012. The research projects include investigating the relationship between microplastics and DNA methylation, the impact of traffic-related air pollution on children's health, and exposure to industrial air pollutants. Other projects include studies on environmental exposure and allergies in preschool children, developing a safe virology lab course, and exploring the cancer-fighting potential of the Newcastle disease virus. My extensive research and numerous publications have significantly advanced the understanding of how air pollution affects health and the biological mechanisms involved.
These endeavours highlight my dedication to advancing environmental health research and addressing pressing health challenges through transdisciplinary approaches.
