In 2015, he joined the Department of Nutrition, Faculty of Medicine and Health, UPM as a Senior Lecturer. His research interest is in nutritional sciences, food safety, and food contaminants especially in the application of probiotics as a potential adsorbent of aflatoxin. His research focuses on probiotics in alleviating aflatoxin-associated symptoms in in vitro, in vivo, and human studies. He also investigates the influence of aflatoxin exposure on the gut microbiome and gut-brain axis (brain health) and how probiotic ameliorates aflatoxin toxicity on health. Besides, has an interest in research on the utilization of agricultural by-products as functional ingredients and prebiotics.
For the past years, he has conducted research collaboration with the University of Georgia, USA to assess human exposure to aflatoxin in Malaysia by detecting specific aflatoxin biomarkers in the clinical samples. He also collaborates with Yakult Honsha and Yakult Malaysia on probiotic and aflatoxin studies. He has received research grants (local and international) to conduct research in the fields of nutritional sciences, food safety, probiotics, and prebiotics. Beyond the probiotic spectrum of research, he also conducts research on teaching and learning with his colleagues in UPM, to give new impetus to educational transformation.
