Dr. Muhd Khaizer Omar was born on January 1st, 1983 in Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur. He is the eldest of four siblings. In 2016, Dr. Muhd Khaizer graduated from the School of Teaching and Curriculum Leadership, College of Education, Health and Aviation, Oklahoma State University, under the supervision of Associate Prof. Dr. Mary Jo Self, Emerita Prof. Dr. Lynna Ausburn, Prof. Dr. Juliana Utley, and Prof. Dr. Pamela Brown. He graduated with PhD in Workforce and Adult Education Curriculum, Instruction, and obtained Graduate Online Teaching Certificate. He is very much focusing on Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) and Service-Learning. He began his tertiary education at SRK Taman Sri Muda, Shah Alam, Selangor and obtained excellent results in the UPSR Assessment. He furthered his secondary education at Sekolah Menengah Agama Hisamuddin, Klang Selangor pursuing both academic and religious academic education streamlines. He completed his secondary education and went to Polytechnic Malaysia educational system He pursued Certificate and Diploma in Mechanical Engineering at the Malaysian Polytechnics before completing his undergraduate in TVET majoring in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia. He studied Master of Science at the University of Putra Malaysia specifically in TVET. While he was studying for a Master of Science (MSc) he was hired as a tutor at the Faculty of Educational Studies, UPM. After completing his master studies, he was then awarded a scholarship by the Malaysian Ministry of Education and University of Putra Malaysia (UPM) to pursue doctoral studies in the United States of America. He is presently working as a senior lecturer at the Department of Science and Technical Education, in the Faculty of Educational Studies, University Putra Malaysia. Several researches were conducted pertaining to teachers mentoring and induction project and service-learning with research colleagues enriched his research experience while completing his Ph.D. program. He was awarded three years in a row (2013-2016) as Distinguished Graduate Scholarship at the Oklahoma State University and Lloyd L. Wiggins Endowment Scholarship proved his quality as a graduate student. His dissertation on job satisfaction and retention of career-switchers was presented in ACTER, the premier research conference specifically for Career and Technical education research.
Upon his return to serve at UPM in 2016, Dr. Muhd Khaizer Omar has since then been asked to teach five undergraduate courses (i.e., STE3601, STE3602, STE3603, STE3610, & STE3630), four master courses (i.e., TVE5004, TVE5006, TVE5007, & EAD5000). In fact, Dr. Muhd Khaizer Omar has vast experience in teaching TVET-based courses in many different levels of education. He had taught at the vocational school level for secondary school students (4 months) and he taught Science stream subjects to students in the form 4 and 5. He had also taught TVET-based subjects to international secondary school students (4 months) at Sri Cempaka International school. When undergoing his PhD, he was active with non-governmental agencies for example Oklahoma Food Bank and participated in numerous service-learning projects at the university.
Dr. Muhd Khaizer has written and published a number of academic papers with the lecturers/professors who taught/supervised him during his PhD studies, and with colleagues at UPM as well as with postgraduate students who he actively supervises. He has been also involved directly with many academic organizations within and outside of UPM in organizing conferences and seminars, such as Association for Career and Technical Education Research (ACTER), International Vocational Education and Training Association (IVETA) International Conference on Educational Research and Practice (ICERP), Graduate Research in Education (GREduc) seminars, and so on. Dr. Muhd Khaizer has chaired the Graduate Research in Education (GREduc) seminar twice in the years 2017 and 2018, and he has advised the new committee for this seminar from 2019 until now (2020).
Dr. Muhd Khaizer is very much interested in the field of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), and in particular the teaching of designing and technology courses. Currently he is also developing interest in the use of digital technology in assisting and assimilating the teaching of TVET course to be more lively and attract student interest in this field. Furthermore, his interest also lies in professional development as he believes in the idea of lifelong learning and betterment of the teaching profession.
