Event Title: Intellectual Property Briefing 2025

On 4 March 2025, I attended the Intellectual Property Briefing 2025, organized by the Intellectual Property Division, Putra Science Park, in collaboration with the Office of the Deputy Dean (Research & Innovation) and the Innovation & Value Committee Malaysia (JINM), Faculty of Engineering, UPM. The briefing was held at Thinker Space 2.0, Faculty of Engineering, UPM, and aimed to provide researchers and innovators with a deeper understanding of intellectual property protection.
Throughout the session, the speaker provided detailed insights on:
• The Importance of Intellectual Property Protection – how copyright and patents safeguard research outcomes and prevent unauthorized use.
• The Application Process for Copyright and Patents – the necessary steps and documentation required for intellectual property registration.
• Commercialization Opportunities – how researchers can leverage patents and copyrights to enhance the value of their research and create industrial impact.
• Q&A Session – an interactive discussion where researchers had the opportunity to seek clarification on intellectual property matters.
As a researcher, I found this briefing highly beneficial as it clarified the significance of protecting research outputs and the procedures involved. With the knowledge gained, I feel more prepared to manage intellectual property applications for my research and ensure that my innovations receive the proper protection they deserve.
Overall, this briefing successfully achieved its objective of raising awareness and understanding of intellectual property among researchers. I hope similar programs will continue in the future to strengthen the research and innovation ecosystem at UPM.
