Dr. Azlan bin Che Amat is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), specializing in wildlife and exotic animal medicine. With a passion for the conservation and health of wildlife species, Dr. Azlan has a wealth of experience in veterinary clinical practices, particularly in the fields of wildlife and exotic animal disease, zoonotic diseases and surgery.

He holds a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from UPM, a Master of Veterinary Science (MVSc) in wildlife health, and a PhD in agricultural and environmental sciences focused on wildlife diseases, earned from the Instituto de Investigación en Recursos Cinegéticos (IREC), University of Castilla La-Mancha (UCLM), Ciudad Real, Spain. Dr. Azlan has been an active academic and researcher since joining UPM in 2017 as Senior Lecturer, where he has also been heavily involved in postgraduate and undergraduate supervision, with numerous students graduating under his guidance.

Dr. Azlan’s research contributions include exploring the epidemiology of tuberculosis and other zoonotic diseases in wildlife, as well as advancing diagnostic techniques for exotic animal diseases. He is the author of numerous publications in high-impact journals and has led several research projects funded by the university and national organizations.

In addition to his academic and research roles, Dr. Azlan is dedicated to fostering the next generation of veterinary professionals, regularly contributing to the curriculum and conducting seminars and workshops. He is a certified veterinarian by professional bodies (Malaysian Veterinary Council) and active in veterinary associations such as a member of Malaysian Association of Veterinary Pathology, an auditor for Wildlife Exotic Veterinarian Special Interest Group (WEVSIG) and member in Malaysian Association of Zoological Medicine (MAZM). He also serves as a reviewer for indexed veterinary journals.
