Noris Mohd Norowi is a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, Universiti Putra Malaysia, Malaysia. She received her Ph.D. degree in Computer Music in 2013 from the University of Plymouth, United Kingdom. She studied for her Master of Science degree in Multimedia Systems and Bachelor of Computer Science degree (majoring in Multimedia) at the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Malaysia. She is a member of the Human-Computer Interaction Lab at the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, Universiti Putra Malaysia. She is an active member of the ACM SIGCHI Kuala Lumpur Chapter (myHCI-UX), where she holds the position as the Treasurer for Malaysia. Her research interests include Music Interaction, Immersive Technologies, Mobile Interaction, and Educational Technology.

She has been awarded the Seed Fund for Research and Training (SFRT international grant) from the Southeast Asian Regional Centre for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) for her work on BURDLE. She has patented the technologies used COLLOTAB, a multi-mobile collaborative system for teaching and learning. She has won numerous awards in many different competitions for her team’s educational innovation such as COLLOTAB, AnnoShare (an online tool for flexible learning which promotes group learning activities), BURDLE (a lightweight app to facilitate M-Learning in rural communities) and co-designed PUTRA PACER (a generic differentiated assessment tool for mixed ability classroom). In 2019, she led her team in the FCSIT, UPM to wining the third place in the Amalan Inovasi Pengajaran dan Pembelajaran Terbaik 2019, organized by the Putra InnoCreative Carnival in Teaching and Learning (PICTL 2019). In the same year, she had won the Anugerah Idea Inovasi Terbaik in the Hari Kualiti dan Perkhidmatan UPM 2019 for her PUTRA WELCOME innovation (a mobile app that helps students prepare themselves prior to commencing life as a University student and aid in navigation on campus). She had also mentored STEM secondary school students in the 2019 and 2018 in the International STEM Olympiad 2019 and 2018. She helped her team designed and developed an augmented reality-based storybook promoting vaccination, and also a mobile game to create awareness on the impact of overusing world resources, winning Gold Medal, Most Commercial Project Award and Silver Medal respectively.

She is active with community services as well, particularly with schools. In 2022, she led FCSIT to collaborate with Sekolah Kebangsaan Desa Putra, Sepang on the SULAM program “Beat COVID-19 in Schools”. In the same year, she also successfully head the two sessions of introduction to web development workshop with teachers and school children of the Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sri Gunung, Bachok, Kelantan in the Sistem Interaktif Web bagi Pelajar / Guru Asas Komputer (SIWAK 2021/22). Other schools which she has collaborated in previously included that from SMK Seri Kembangan and SMK Cheras Jaya (Program Celik IT), (SK Salak (ANILAMASI 2017 – Program Pengayaan NILAM Melalui Animasi), MRSM Kuala Klawang (Bengkel Asas Pembangunan Video) dan SMK George V (F1 in Schools) as a mentor.

Her other passion includes traditional Malay music. She supervises several projects on re-imagining the Bonang instrument in Malay gamelan in virtual reality, a mobile app for Kompang playing using the accelerometer and gyroscopic functions of the mobile phone, and also copyrighted a game, KompangMaster: Leap in Air, a game to promote Kompang playing using Leap Motion. She used to play with the Gamelan and Malay percussions with the UPM Cultural Centre (PKKSSAAS) and belonged to the Chandra Gita Swara Balinese Gamelan team in Plymouth, United Kingdom when she had studied for her Ph.D.
