PROFESSIONAL
Dr. Noor Azira Abdul Mutalib is an Associate Professor in the Department of Food Service and Management, Faculty of Food Science and Technology, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). She has been serving at UPM since April 2016. In addition, she is also a researcher at the Institute of Tropical Agriculture and Food Security (ITAFoS), UPM, as well as a member of the National Food Safety Steering Committee under the Food Safety and Quality Division (FSQD), Ministry of Health Malaysia.
She obtained her Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Microbiology in 2006 and her Master’s degree in Community Health in 2012, both from Universiti Putra Malaysia. She later pursued her Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) under a Dual PhD program between UPM and Kyushu Institute of Technology, Japan, specializing in Food Microbiology and Medical Microbiology, and graduated in 2016.
Her primary research focus centres on Food Safety, Food Microbiology, Hygiene and Sanitation, as well as Microbial Risk Assessment. In addition to her active involvement in research and teaching, Dr. Noor Azira Abdul Mutalib also plays a significant role in organizing capacity‑building programmes aimed at strengthening knowledge and skills in food safety, hygiene, and food quality.
She is frequently invited as a speaker, trainer, and technical advisor for various training programmes involving food handlers, the food industry, government agencies, and local communities. Through these initiatives, she remains committed to enhancing public awareness of safe food handling practices and compliance with food hygiene standards.
